The Mystery of Marriage

One reason truly successful marriages are not common is that marriage itself is a mystery. When something is described as mysterious, it means it is difficult to fully understand, involves elements beyond what is obvious, or carries deeper meaning beneath the surface.
Apostle Paul captures this powerfully in the Message translation of the Bible:
Ephesians 5:32-33 [MSG]
This is a huge mystery, and I don't pretend to understand it all. What is clearest to me is the way Christ treats the church. And this provides a good picture of how each husband is to treat his wife—loving himself in loving her—and how each wife is to honor her husband.
Dear couples, when was the last time you approached your relationship with intentional effort, recognizing it as an extraordinary union? What price are you willing to pay to ensure your marriage is never treated lightly? How committed are you to growing in your understanding of how God designed marriage to work?
It is clear from the passage above that any couple who truly longs for a flourishing marriage must keep their eyes fixed on one sacred picture—the picture of Christ and His church. This timeless image is the ultimate blueprint for love and honour: a husband loving his wife as his own life, and a wife responding with honour and respect.
