Who Is Mentoring You?

John & Matilda Joachim · February, 2026
Who is mentoring you in marriage?

A mentor is someone you can trust—an experienced guide who helps you grow in your personal, professional, moral, and spiritual life. They share wisdom, give advice, offer honest feedback, and model the attitudes and skills that help you become your best self.

Unlike a teacher, who simply gives knowledge, a mentor walks with you—listening, encouraging, correcting, and challenging you over time. Mentorship is built on trust and care, not transactions.

Surprisingly, while mentoring is common in schools, workplaces, and ministry, it's rare in marriage. Most couples only get premarital counseling—and then, nothing. No wonder so many marriages struggle.

As Proverbs 11:14 [CEB] says:
"Without guidance, a people will fall, but there is victory with many counselors."

Mentorship can strengthen your marriage—giving you tools, wisdom, and support you don't yet have. By embracing it, you invest not just in your relationship but in a legacy of love, stability, and resilience for your family and community.

Couples, remember: you can reach higher, go further, and stand stronger when you stand on the shoulders of a giant.
